Angel of the North
If you are visiting Newcastle / Gateshead, you should include Angel of the North in your visiting list. Standing watch over Tyneside for over 20 years, the iconic sculpture is synonymous with Newcastle and Gateshead.
Alongside, you can do guided tour to Victoria Tunnel. Victoria Tunnel was built in 1842 to transport coal from Leazes Main Colliery to riverside staithes (jetties) ready for loading onto ships. In 1939, it was converted into an air-raid shelter to protect hundreds of Newcastle citizens during World War II.
The Tunnel is open all year round to the public for guided tours which include fantastic sound and visual effects, running regularly throughout the year.
